Custom Orders
Yes, we do custom and personalized orders. If you see something you like and want it in a different size or color combination, we would be happy to work with you to produce custom art for you. If you would like to discuss a custom order, please reach out to us at Julie@rainydaycreations.art
Custom orders are a bit of a journey. Initially, we have some back and forth with the customer so we can understand what they are trying to achieve. During this phase we may do some test runs depending on what the customer has requested. Once we understand the customer’s requirements, we paint the item. It then takes 3 weeks for the paint to cure. Once the paint is cured, we can then finish the item. When finishing a canvas, we first apply an isolation coat to isolate the paint from the varnish. We then apply an art grade varnish to finish the item. It can take multiple coats of varnish to get a good finish.
The minimum time required to complete a custom order is 4 weeks (3 weeks for the paint to cure + 1 week for finishing). A more reasonable estimate is 6-8 weeks, which covers back and forth with the customer and things like art shows which impact our ability to focus on your item.
For custom orders, which we can easily sell to other customers, all we need to get started is an understanding of your requirements.
For custom orders, which we cannot easily sell to other customers, we require an upfront deposit of 50%. We commit to making three attempts to produce an item the customer likes. (If we make an attempt that we don’t like, it doesn’t count as an attempt.) If after 3 attempts the customer doesn’t like the results, the customer may use their deposit to purchase any of our other items.
As part of the custom order process, we ask that customers manage their expectations. All of our work is unique, and we cannot exactly duplicate another item. We use fluid paint and are able to influence it. We cannot control the paint—the paint does what it does. In addition to the paint being fluid, we layer the paint on the item. The order that we layer the paint has a strong influence on the outcome, but we cannot control what the paint does. Two pieces using the same colors layered in the same order can look very different.
